An eighteenth century dutch house located in the heart of Galle Fort, described by Marcus Binney of the UK Times as being 'as smart as any villa in Provence or Tuscany'. In the media
A wonderfully proportioned house that emphasizes its beautiful antique original features – walls, doors, windows, lintels, beams, paintwork – while combining them with immaculate modern interior elements. This is the result of a painstaking process of renovation. The whole building has a very spacious, light and open feel.
Coming into the wide-frontage house off the street you enter a long verandah lined with swivel windows on the street-side to allow for cool airflow through the house. The other side of the verandah is comprised of a high wall with four large, beautiful old windows and the tall doorway into the interior, where careful restoration has re-exposed the original layers of antique paint.
This beautiful antique feel continues as you enter the main body of the house into tranquil splendour of the hallway. Off this are two of the three en-suite bedrooms of 350-400 square feet each, which continue the same feel with their high ceilings, massive window ledges set into the 4 foot thick walls (original walls filled with coral) and stylish antique and contemporary furnishings.
The hall also leads through to the 50 foot living/dining room, with its high ceilings, large roof timbers and eclectic mixture of antique and contemporary sri lankan and asian furniture, and growing collection of contemporary asian (principally sri lankan) art. From here one passes through multiple open archways into the lush, beautifully tropical courtyard with garden and pool (featuring a counter-flow water jet for the keen swimmer and an ozone filter to greatly reduce the amount of chlorine needed).
Upstairs the master bedroom boasts further stylishly original design features and opens out onto an upper verandah and large roof terrace. The beautiful garden and rooftop views can be enjoyed from the terrace’s large sitting area (which can be shaded or left open) or from the comfort of the master bed.

Villa was nice and has an excellent decoration. Unfortunately downstairs rooms dont have ac.Is noisy in the morning because of the school. You should contact the clients b4 they come for drink and food requests.
Eden Villas responds: Roger booked thru an agent and we did ask re food and drink but were told 'not needed'. We can arrange for a meal on arrival so please ask for details. We have now put air con into all bedrooms. Thank you.
This was our second stay in Galle Fort, and No 32 provided us with a
guaranteed week's rest and relaxation - the villa is beautiful, staff
very helpful and the food was just fantastic. My only criticism was
that the pool was not as accessible as it could have been - some
stepping stones over the grass would be a good idea!
A most marvellous and perfect stay in an idyllic setting. The sense of tranquility and hospitality are all pervasive.
I have nothing but praise for 32 middle street it ticked all the boxes, and we got what the photographs showed, often quite tricky photographs and can lead to disappointment, (the staff) where great, 10 out of 10 with thanks Jas, and definately hope to be back and will be in touch whenever.
From the staff to the setting it was simply perfect.
Enjoyed being in the midst of Fort Galle. Middle House a lovely building sympathetically restored. Food courtesy of Malini and Kushan wonderful. Would have preferred to be on our own overnight.
EV comment: the staff can leave the house if asked to do so. Sorry we did not make that clear.
We really loved staying at 32 Middle Street. It was so peaceful and situated just around the corner from Galle Fort. Breakfast and dinner were presented beautifully. The food was very fresh especially the fruits. We were a party of 4 however the house would accommodate 6 people very nicely.
Lovely villa - very open, very clean and beautifully decorated. Staff were really friendly and very helpful, gave us privacy when we asked and generally made our stay very comfortable. Well situated in the Galle Fort, across the narrow road from a school, although this may seem a disadvantage by some, it was really sweet - and the little neighbourhood moved into a sleepy quietness after 1.30pm! Perfect! Would stay again and definitely recommend to couples and small families.
We spent two nights at 32 Middle Street while exploring the delights of Galle. This is a magnificent villa located within easy walking distance of all that Galle Fort has to offer.
Superb meals were provided by the chef in what is a very peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.
Highly recommended to anyone seeking luxury accommodation where you can truly relax.
Difficult to give a better note than our stay just before at Stella Beach Villa (just next to Mirissa Beach), but once again, excellent is the key word for 32 Middle Street. You cannot imagine such a lovely place behind the entrance of the dark street of Fort Galle. After 1 minute, all my family had the same feeling : we want to buy this house, she is so nice, so big with great "déco". The swimming pool is really good, the living is giant as all rooms. Staff perfect, and the curry was 5 stars too...
We all loved the house - the calm, stylish interior, the two fantastic and friendly staff, the pool with it's powerful jet, the AC and lovely bathrooms and we loved the simple street exterior which hid the house within. Being opposite and next to a school meant lots of cheerful instrument practice and jolly noise - an addition, not a pain.
We would give 5 star all round. Thank you very much.
We absolutely loved our stay on Middle Street. The villa is beautiful and an Oasis of calm. We were so well looked after by Kushan and Melina that we didn't want to leave.
