The Doctor's House

Enquire about The Doctor's House

This generously proportioned villa is approached by stepping stones over water and has a glorious garden with gate leading to a secluded cove. It has 3 dbls and 1 twin, all ensuite, in a cool minimalist interior with all rooms enjoying garden views.

The bedrooms, each with terrace or courtyard are clustered around a double height sitting / dining room that has open views on to the plunge pool, garden and shaded dining area.

A gorgeous small pool in the garden ensures it remains cool, from the heat of the sun, at any time of day.

There is direct beach access from the garden and a raised seating area for watching stilt fisherman at work, or toasting the sun go down.

If all this was not enough, the owners have created an Aurveydic health spa with treatment rooms. There is a qualified Doctor and therapists so if massages, steam baths, facials or other treatments are your desired path on holiday...look no further.

My family spent a very enjoyable 4 nights at the Doctors House in August 2010. It is a beautiful house in an idyllic location with a lovely and very private garden. The ayurvedic clinic next door means that if you like you can have a wonderful massage

We had a lovely stay at the Doctor's House. The property itself was absolutely gorgeous and the villa was significantly larger than we anticipated. The staff was super friendly and went above and beyond our expectations. Upali is a great cook. The butler was sweet as ever and we appreciated his efforts to free our bedrooms of mosquitoes nightly. We really had a great time. The only thing that I can think of that could be improved was the cleanliness of the kitchen. It wasn't bad but I just like the pulls and the back splashes to be cleaner. Thank you for all of your help and we look forward to returning to the Doctor's House or staying in another one of your recommended villas in the future. Cheers!

Our stay at the Dr's House was most pleasurable. The location was perfect. The ambience of the Villa was inviting and relaxed. The unobstrusive, yet attentive staff helped us unwind, and feel pampered. A repeat visit may be planned when my family from overseas come over another time.

(we) would like to thank you for one of the more memorable family holidays we have had.
The Villa far exceeded our expectations, both in the stunning interiors, the beautiful gardens and its perfect location. The staff also went beyond the usual service levels, with Upali in particular not only providing us with magnificent meals but also genuine warmth towards our children

We all found the whole place enchanting, the wonderfully designed and sensitively furnished house, the magnificent location close to the beach, the lovely natural garden and, of course, the superb team that looked after us so well. Such was the appeal and marvellous atmosphere of the place, that (we did not leave) the garden for the entire five days - other than for the occasional stroll along the beach. We all found it very hard to leave and are already thinking about an early return.

I wish to extend our heartfelt thanks for everything you did to ensure our stay at The Doctor's House was comfortable and happy. Please convey our thanks to all the staff, who were absolutely joyous; they were friendly, helpful, unobtrusive, but always there if we needed anything.

Upali prepared delicious meals for us which we enjoyed immensely and he always considered the children.
We simply adored Sri Lanka and it's people whom we found to be most welcoming, warm and friendly, and always with a smile. We shall definitely return one day for a longer stay to explore more of your beautiful country.

The Doctors House was just the kind of escape we were looking for. All the staff welcoming and interested. Upali bit full of his own importance but came around. We really enjoyed the seclusion and would have stayed longer had the property been available.

EV comment: Upali is the chef...enough said but as Liz confirms the kitchen is yours and you should not feel beholden to a chef.

We had a wonderful stay at the Doctors House. The house itself is gorgeous with high ceilings, large beds and tastefully decorated. There are plenty of areas to relax and a large group can comfortably eat at tables indoors or outdoors. There was a well stocked library too so no need to bring stacks of books.

The plunge pool is lovely and cool, a welcome break from the heat.

The team who look after you are lovely and so welcoming. Our chef was very creative and we had some fine spreads - particularly recommend the BBQ fish and crumbed prawns.

The spa next door was a lovely bonus and we had several treatments. A 15 minute walk along the beach at low tide takes you to a natural reef area where kids can swim under supervision, there are a couple of bars on the shoreline where you can grab a drink / something to eat.

We had a 9 month old baby with us and he was really well looked after, his cot was wonderful.

There are only two criticisms, the first is the lack of air conditioning. This might be unfair as it was 30-35 degrees when we were there, wouldn't have been such a problem if it was a few degrees less.

However, we found it quire sticky at night times in the rooms (the living space is well ventilated / has lots of fast moving fans) and didn't sleep well. Plus, for the baby we had to set up a plug in fan next to his bed to keep him cool, he just wore a nappy at night it was so hot.

The second thing is that there were a lot of mosquitos / ants and it was hard to get away from them / keep them at bay. That said, only one of us got really badly bitten (despite many precautions taken) but it was a bit offputting with regards to lying outside on loungers for too long or dining outdoors in the evening.

All in all The Doctors House is very much recommended. We had a wonderful time and would definitely consider going back again.

WOW! What a magical place...

8 of us could not have a negative word to say about The Doctor's House...Stunning villa, amazing staff, beautiful grounds & gorgeous food!

I highly recommend staying here, we will be back one day!

Its a great beach house (no air condition), great staff. Not good for traveling with children under 5.

What a beutiful place! We had a lovely time at the Doctor's house and enjoyed its very special architecture and the lovely gardens. A special highlight was Upali's cooking - what a gifted chef and lovely person; he made our stay extra special.

We loved the Doctor's House. Lots of room, beautiful garden and the little "Pirate's Cove" beach at the end of the garden which our three year old daughter adored splashing around in. It's not a swimming beach and you have to keep a close eye on kids but the whole place is fantastic. And the best until last... the staff are great and really professional. Mr Upali's Sri Lankan cooking was perhaps the high point of our stay. He alone is a good enough reason to go there.

the Villa is so cozy and the food was so nice...
Best Chef you have there, everyday we ate awesome food... thanks to Upali (Chef)

We recently spent two glorious weeks at The Doctor's House between Christmas and early January 2012. We couldn't fault this spacious well-appointed house, the fabulous staff, the gorgeous garden setting and the beautiful beaches at the end of the garden. A truly magical setting! We were extremely looked after by Upali who cooked up a storm – wonderful fresh fruits and egg hoppers for breakfast, fresh grilled fish and prawns for lunch and an extensive array of delicious curries (specifically ask for the vegetarian curries!) and whole grilled Butter Fish for dinner. We firmly believe Upali is one of Sri Lanka's living treasures and should be nominated for UNESCO listing!

The Doctor's House is immaculately maintained and looked after by a fantastic team – special thanks to Edgar and Verishinge who made our holiday such a wonderful experience. We're already dreaming up our return visit.

We couldn't recommend The Doctor's House more highly.

We stayed at the Doc's house for about 5 days with a large group of people, friends, family with kids in January'12 and had an absolute blast!

The villa easily accommodates large groups in 4, spacious bedrooms and offers plenty of indoor areas to relax as well as outdoor space for the kids to play in the garden and the others to relax by the pool.

The staff is very friendly and helpful and with a little extra - effort the chef will master about any recipes asked for.

Strong recommendation for a much more reasonable price than comparable villas in the area.

Given 2/5 by nicole kharma from Singapore

the villa is very nice as well the surroundings, the staff were polite & pleasant, but the biggest problem are the mosquitoes whether daytime or nighttime, the coil would help only for few hours but the whole family was bitten all over. we had mosquito repellent on, mosquito patches on but still got bitten. you have a serious problem and it makes the stay unpleasant. u should consider spraying the garden on a weekly basis, because frankly i cant recommend it to my friends & wont be back for that matter. best.

Eden Villas responds via email to Nicole:
I have just read your review of the Dr's House and am so sorry...in all the conversations you had with our office we under estimated that you were suffering so much.
Mozzies can be bad anywhere of course but we can take certain action and after your comments we will most certainly start to fumigate on a weekly basis or as it is requested.
Please accept my apologies for not having understood the severity of the situation you faced.
Hopefully we can welcome you back sometime....and that all the bites have cleared.
