And now for something completely different..and fabulous. 

The Tamarind Hut is a two bedroom hut made by the ecologically minded for us all. The floor and walls are made using centuries old traditional craftsmanship and natural materials. In this case wood, thatch, and mud. Compacted layer upon compacted layer of mud go to making this house probably one of the coolest, in every sense, on the island. In fact in its short life it has already been hailed as one of THE villas in the world by Harper's Bazaar.

The two ensuite bedrooms sit either side of the open plan living and dining and gaze out over the lush tropical garden. An oval shaped pool emerges from the tall grass and has a large step allowing hours of wallowing.

The freshly cut lawn falls gracefully into the lush paddy fields that fill the immediate landscape. This the real beauty of Sri Lanka. So peaceful and so relaxing.

Close enough to beaches to pop down for the day if you really want and even closer to the fabulous rock temple of Yattagala this house offers a very special escape. Anyway, should you find yourself wanting for anything you can put a call into the nearby Amangalla hotel for deliveries.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and away from the touristic areas then Tamarind Hut is the place for you. Its only 10 minutes away by tuc tuc from Thalpe beach road.
The hut is tucked away inside the jungle, surrounded by nothing but rice paddies and trees! Its the perfect getaway for some nice relaxing time to enjoy with your family or friends. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I recommend hiring a chef as the food he prepared was amazing.
If you have a fear of insects, then this is not the place for you...remember you're in the jungle!
