Wetakeiya House

Wetakeiya House, located in the fishing town of Dikwella approx 165km from Colombo, is a 3 ensuite bedroom family home enjoying a south facing elevated position with views out to sea. All bedrooms have air con. The house is staffed by a wonderful couple who reside in separate accommodation who will cook, clean and generally look after you.    

The house is beautifully constructed and has polished cement flooring throughout allowing it to remain cool and encourage barefoot living. Two of the bedrooms face a pond at the entrance to the house whilst the master suite with king size four poster has sea views. The sitting room has deep sofas and there is a separate TV room. A large covered veranda looks south over the terraced garden and has a dining table as well as more large day beds and a hammock fixed between two columns.

The small pool is on a lower terrace and the garden leads down to a small southwest facing pavilion where the owner practices yoga and it is just as good for a less energetic siesta or sundowners. The rocky shore not suitable for swimming and there is a small crescent shape bay shown in the photos approx 5 mins stroll down a track.

The house itself was amazing, exactly as was advertised and suited our needs perfectly. The landscaping and views were beautiful and the external sound system is something we believe should be advertised as it was great to be able to plug in your iPod and play your own music. However we did feed back that there were a few issues with the amplifier that kept turning itself off, it worked most of the time.

By far the biggest plus for us were the staff. What an amazing bunch of people and the true credit to Wetakeiya House! Chris runs the place like clockwork, her and her team thought of everything and there was nothing that they wouldn’t / didn’t do for us. They were fantastic with the kids and they felt like part of the family whilst giving us some space to enjoy our time. I don’t however think I have the words to describe Chris’ cooking! It was amazing and will be greatly missed. She was so accommodating with my gluten free diet and my sons nut allergy – she made it an amazing holiday for me as usually my choices are limited but she ensured there was plenty for me to eat, In fact I could have most things!

and very comfortable. It really is a beautiful home. We loved the large veranda and spent most of our time between there and the pool. The view from the house is beautiful. The house is cool with ceiling fans and air-conditioning. (However it would be great to have ceiling fans on the veranda above the sitting area and the dining area and one in the Kitchen). The villa is well positioned for 2 stunning beaches, one the popular Hiriketiya Beach and the other a long beach for lovely sunset walks. Kanthi and Indu, the care-taking staff at the villa, were so helpful, kind and caring. We had a birthday celebration while at the villa and Kanthi and Indu went out of their way to make a delicious birthday breakfast and a celebratory dinner. All the food they prepared for us was excellent. We would certainly love to return to Wetakeiya Villa and highly recommend this little bit of paradise.
