Uhuru

Uhuru, meaning freedom, is a lovely family beach villa perched overlooking the Indian Ocean a few km from Galle.

Entering the property via stepping stones across a large carp filled pond you face a large wall that adds to the excitement and anticipation of the views behind it and also provides backbone of the house. Designed by acclaimed architect Bruce Fell Smith it is from this point, as you venture around the wall, that you are truly able to leave one world behind you and enter into the other, altogether more blissful one offered by this stunning villa.

Recently acquired and sensitively upgraded by the new owners Uhuru has lost none of its charm and gained a whole heap of comfort and style. Built in a U shape there are 4 double bedroom suites on one side - the master suite has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the garden and ocean - and the 5th (twin) along with the large sitting dining room on the other. All bedrooms are air con and ensuite - the bathrooms are to die for and are filled with yummy natural products - and all have courtyard or garden access.

The pool occupies central spot in the large garden and has steps at both ends and there is a lovely elevated pagoda over the beach for drifting off during the day or enjoying a sundowner whilst marveling at the spectacular sunsets.

The house comes with a full compliment of house staff including a chef. It is close enough to beach bars and restaurants if you wish to venture out although it is our experience that once settled you will not wish to leave the freedom offered by Uhuru.
