This modern and contemporary beach house has spectacular ocean views across the infinity pool to the headlands across the bay.  The crisp white simplicity of the house contrasts with the adjacent ‘jungle’ and sea, providing spacious living spaces where the Sri Lankan vegetation and ever-changing sea views are constantly present.

There are 3 double ensuite bedrooms with air con and over head fans. The en-suite bathrooms are all ‘inside and out’ with the double basins and loos fully covered but with open air private shower areas. The rest of the house does not have AC as the ceiling fans and sea breezes provide ample cooling. 

The extensive kitchen units include a wide breakfast bar with leather-topped stools well placed to take in the stunning view.   It’s a great place for a casual breakfast, a lime soda or a cold beer; it’s also the owners’ favourite spot for a cup of coffee first thing in the morning.  The countertops are all hand-crafted and finished in grey terrazzo, as are the open shelves with a fully stocked ‘chef’s kitchen’.  The kitchen has a complete range of pots, pans, glasses and crockery.  It is fully fitted with all mod cons including an oven, gas hob, fridge with freezer compartment, front loading washing machine, toaster, kettle, and stovetop espresso pots.  The kitchen, which is approximately 5.5m x 5m, opens onto the dining room.

The swimming pool is 19.2m long x 5m wide, and is 1.5m deep throughout its length.  It has wide steps at either end of the house but leaving sufficient width for guests to swim laps, including tumble turns.  The slate pool tiles were hand cut and chosen to match the overriding colour of the sea.  The pool is heated by the sun and is a chlorinated pool. There are underwater lights on three sides of the pool.

The garden is planted throughout with indigenous Sri Lankan trees and plants.  Great care was taken in designing the house to incorporate the existing trees and shrubs into the overall plan.  There are wide steps connecting the house, main terrace and pool area with the lower garden which is flat and grassy and good for games.  There is also a large BBQ.

In addition to the other conveniences mentioned above, such as the library, the house also has wifi, a DVD player, DVDs, and an HD TV in Bedroom Three.

We had a wonderful week at the Tangalle Beach House and can really recommend it. The view is heavenly. Almost unbearably so. You cannot imagine how beautiful the view over the sea and the opposite headland is. Photos simply don't do the it justice. The house is very stylish with three bedrooms, all on one level. All the rooms open out on to a garden area or a drawing room that then opens on to the terrace area where the beautiful, long (20m+?) pool is. At the end of the terrace is a hidden area where one can have an outdoor massage which is blissful. There are then steps down to a garden area which then leads out to the beach which is just one minute from the house. The beach is rocky but it's easy to get to the sea from there. The sea is a little too rough for swimming at this point but it is lovely for wading. You can walk a couple of minutes down from the villa to a sandy beach and swim in the sea.

The staff are lovely and keen to please. They quickly learnt that I'm tea mad and would bring me cups of tea whenever I asked and frequently tried to anticipate when I'd want the next one. The cook is competent and made delicious breakfasts. You're not far from the Aman, Coco Tangalla and the Anantara if you want to go for a sophisticated evening out, although we weren't desperately impressed by the Aman.

My only negative is that given the proximity to the pool, it's probably not suitable for young kids that don't swim.

Given those caveats, please, do yourself a favor and go and stay at the Tangalle Beach House. It's cool, chic and has an unbeatable view.

The Tangalla Beach House is simply beautiful and in the most stunning location. It has the most incredible views of the ocean and perfectly located. The layout of the house has been perfectly designed providing a modern and contemporary feel. It's large enough for a family and intimate enough for a couple.The open plan kitchen opens onto a lovely open dining area which was one of our favorite parts of the house. The house was kept immaculately clean and the quality of the furnishings and the attention to detail made this Beach House really special . I have to compliment the owner on their team of staff as they were so accommodating and lovely and anything we needed they couldn't have been more helpful . The food that was prepared by the in house cook and staff was wonderful! Honestly we absolutely loved this villa and we would definitely come back to Tangalla Beach House. Simply stunning!

Simply put, our stay at TBH was the highlight of a really wonderful trip to Sri Lanka. It is difficult to think of any way in which the experience could be improved upon:-

· The views are spectacular at any time of the day or evening, whether you are looking out to sea or looking back at the house.

· The accommodation is so well designed and laid out, and beautifully decorated throughout.

· The inside/outside bathrooms are delightful and an unexpected bonus (our 2 girls loved showering next to a palm tree!).

· The pool is a real highlight (we were in and out of it from dawn till dusk and sometimes beyond as well).

· The staff were so friendly, attentive and helpful. They just could not do enough for you.

· The food was the best we ate throughout the whole holiday (even catering each time for our youngest child’s dislike of anything too spicy)

Usually, by the end of a 2 week break, my wife is ready to go home. This time, she wanted to stay another week and is already talking about when we can return.

In short, the nicest place we have stayed in many, many years of travelling (with or without children). I could not recommend it highly enough.
