Walatta House

let me thank you on behalf of all of us for showing us paradise on earth. We couldn't be happier here at Walatta House.
The service is superb, everyone is really nice and pleasant, and let us have our privacy while still catering to all our needs. We enjoyed the freshly prepared food by Alwis immensely - they included some of the best dishes we ever had! We didn't dine outside as it can't get better than that.

Today we had massages at the villa. It's definitely something we would recommend to everyone.

As we love it here so much, we didn't do many "outside" activities. Some of us took surf lessons at the Bandula Surf School and were thrilled. Some of us went whale watching and were rewarded with some unforgettable memories of those amazing creatures and an exciting boat trip.

If we were to change anything, it would probably be the storage situation in the rooms, and a safe in the bedroom with the two beds.

But as you can hear, we are fully happy and will recommend Walatta House to everyone we know. You have exceeded our expectations by far. We will be back!

I found my new favourite! I think Geoffrey Bawa mixes raw aesthetics perfectly with the environment in this property and it’s a WOW villa in every regard. May I suggest a new landscape photo be taken from the base of the stairs coming down, looking out to the pool and view, taking in the dining area? The pool shot alone does not capture the feel one gets when sitting inside looking out.

We absolutely loved Walatta House. It was stunning as was the garden, the swimming pool and the beach. The staff were also charming and very helpful and looked after us extremely well, we had a wonderful stay.

The food was also delicious, my only comment is that the food can be a bit repetitive in the evenings. Always the same sauce with either chicken or fish or prawns. I think a bit more diversity could be brought in to the dinner meals. My friends staying in a villa nearby had the same comment on their dinners and I had the same comment when I visited Sri Lanka previously in 2013.

In terms of the villa it was amazing. The staff in particular are great. Alwyn’s cooking is amazing, all of the guys were very professional and discreet but very happy and very open and really helpful. They were really great with our 4 year old son, set off fireworks and made a cake for his birthday and when he wanted to assist the gardener or Sarengai (sorry I have spelt that wrong) or Sheehan they always smiled and let him help out. Even though Sheehan and the gardener spoke little English they were really smiley and kind and always let him help them. Tommy also would wander to chat to one of the security guards,(sorry I forgot his name) who again were always kind and patient with him.
The house itself is amazing, it didn’t stand up so well to the wet weather when more bugs would come in and a lot of water. But again they guys would be in early (I think from about 4.30am) and be mopping up before we were up. So there is really nothing anyone could have done to make it more comfortable, its just the design of the house which works amazingly well ij the sun but not so much in the rain.

Anyway, we really loved it, would 100% recommend it to anyone and will definitely book it and be back again.

I really cannot emphasise how amazing the staff are though. You would have a hard time finding a lovelier bunch of people. They are all really great, hard working, happy, friendly and brilliant. Wally the dog was great too and added to a nice relaxed atmosphere.

I honestly can’t really think of anything you could improve on. Please pass on our warm regards to the staff and tell them we miss them……Tommy is bereft at the lack of coconuts and curd back in London!

We verbleven hier 5 nachten en huis en de staf zijn in één woord geweldig !! Dit is echt een prachtig huis,je weet niet wat je ziet zo mooi !! Een prachtig zwembad voor de deur,en de kamers zijn zeer comfortabel en van alle gemakken voorzien. En dan de ligging,echt een geweldig uitzicht over zee en je loopt zo naar het strand,je moet even over een paar rotsen klimmen maar dat is heel goed te doen en dan heb je een strand helemaal voor jezelf,er is bijna niemand op het strand,totale privacy. Ook de staf is geweldig,je wordt op je wenken bediend,en de maaltijden bereid door de kok zijn echt geweldig !! We hebben hier heerlijk gegeten in overleg is alles mogelijk,patat voor de kinderen,spaghetti,en heerlijke rijst maaltijden,het wordt allemaal gemaakt. Ook al het andere personeel is bijzonder vriendelijk en behulpzaam,waar wij als dierenliefhebbers ook van hebben genoten is de waakhond "wally" wat een lief dier!. Ook rondom het huis ligt een mooie tuin,met een beetje geluk zie je de apen in de bomen slingeren. Kortom een geweldig huis !! We waren het er allemaal overeens dat we best nog een paar dagen langer hadden willen blijven.

Our family had the absolute pleasure of being welcomed into the Walatta house fold in late July. Wow, it was a truly magical three days, and an absolute sensory extravaganza ! The smells Maduras incredible cooking creations, the sound of the wild stormy waves, the feel of the stone underfoot and soft waters, the view to the Indian ocean and tropical plants that wove within and around the house…. Simply amazing. I don't know that i have seen our family so relaxed! Of course the extraordinary attention to our meals was a highlight, Madura would gather us each morning to create the menu for the day, the kids were in heaven! We even got a few tips in the kitchen … those devilled nuts. The attention to detail and the great care in truly hosting from Suranga and all the team working tirelessly behind the scenes. Not to forget Wally the dog who loved to escort us on long beach walks and joined us in the pool too!. And what a pool, best ever. The gardens are just exquisite and they way nature and house blend is a delight, loved the grass roof and the way the roof lights allow the plants to grow through. We weathered a moody storm, and lost the power a couple of times, but the generator kicked in within minutes with this pro team. Not once did we worry for our security, it never entered our head. We decided to continue with our travels to Sri Lanka post the April bombing, after much much careful thought. I can whole heartedly say that it was an incredibly safe experience around the entire country and we have never felt such great care and hosting as by the Sri Lankan people. Come and experience this magic place !!

We stayed 3 nights in this beautiful villa. We were 7 family members, our 5 year old son stayed in our room that was the largest and they added one bed for some fee in this room. The villa is beautifully built and is clean and comfortable. The chef/ manager is gifted, the presentation of the food and table setting is beautiful and the staff are friendly and helpful and they make sure you have everything you need. The ocean is 5 minutes away and suitable for swimming while there is swimming pool with pioneering view towards the ocean. We requested 2 masseuse to come to the villa. A lady and a gentleman came. I recommend the stone and steam massage with the man. The oil massage with the lady was ordinary. We all had a great time and highly recommend this place. Thank you Madhura and team

Everything about this place is great. The house is beautiful in and out. The staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgable. The concierge service was top-notch..helping us book everything from transport and activities to reservations at restaurants along the way. If you are looking for 5-star experience and accommodations, this is the place.

This modern luxurious villa on top of a hill, overlooking the ocean, surrounded with palmtrees can only be described as paradise. With Madura daily cooking delicious meals and two other staff members serving you tea and taking care of everything, there is not really a reason for you to leave the house. Stroll down to the beautiful beach, cool down in the breathtaking infinity pool or just read a book in the open space lobby, Walatta House is a perfect place to take a break from the world and clear your mind. Needless to say, the upkeep was perfect and the rooms spaceous with walk-in wardrobes and plant filled open air bathrooms. The only downside of visiting this place is when you have to leave it behind. Thanks again to Madura and his staff for taking such great care of us. We had an unforgettable experience.

It is really amazing - i am used to booked nice houses arround the world but this one is really 5 stars - the house it self . But also the location, the beach, the staff, the food, the company that takes care of the payments etc - everything is just so professional. The place is really quiet. You have all this wild birds etc We are already planing to go back next year !!! Thank you all

Walatta house was one of our highlights of our architectural travel. The house and the location were fantastic and all of us were excited. Also the staff and the food were excellent. I will be very happy to recommend the Walatta house.

Perfect place like a fairy tale :). First of all, the amazing The Walatta House team. Very nice people who show that they love their work. They do everything they see in your eyes and nothing is a problem. Madhura is an amazing cook. He would really be a celebrity in Europe, thanks to what he can do. Perfect tastes, all from quality ingredients. His traditional Sri Lankan curry was the best we have ever eaten. At the same time Italian Linguine perfect and absolutely authentic. Finally, the most important thing for me: When I heard my heartburn during my stay… Madhura had no problem to start cooking my diet food .. Steamed rice, steamed vegetables, steamed fish .. everything perfect and tasty. And that saved my stay because unfortunately I suffer from heartburn. When I once wanted the same thing in our country (Czech Republic), it was a big problem to make this diet: D. They looked at me like a fool that I didn't want another fried and spicy food…: D But not here. Madhura was perfect and really did what I wanted. Although my English is at a very poor level. That's why I translated via google translator and I wrote SMS to Madhura :). That was all right for him, too. At the same time, he continued to cook to my boyfriend without diet. so my boyfriend could enjoy all of Madhura's culinary art. The rest of the Walatta House team made us feel more like a fairy tale. At the same time, they were very unobtrusive so that they would not disturb our rest. At night, the night watchman guarded and in the morning personally set up a room for the day and in the evening they set up mosquito nets. Above all, we got in touch with a very nice person named Surunga. Very cheerful and pleasant person with whom it was a pleasure to communicate with our bad English. Next to him were two other helpers who were helping with everything. At the same time, they were really unobtrusive not to disturb our rest. Thanks to their care, I felt like a princess. :) Thank you very much again for everything. My boyfriend went with Madhura to the market to see how Madhura buys fresh ingredienst. Madhura knows how to buy the freshest fish and seafood directly from small fishermen on the coast. He doesn't take anything from the stinking markets, he takes pasta from Italy… he buys vegetables in organic quality and I have to confirm that I have never eaten such good vegetables. :) As for the house, it is the perfect house that is in complete symbiosis with nature. Everything looks natural and very comfortable. The pool is beautiful and you will really swim in it and the best is finally, the beach below the house is breathtaking and can swim there beautifully. Well just great big experience really like a fairy tale .. :) Thank you very much for everything! :)
